Hi there,

Sorry to hear about your experience. I would request you to share the details along as asked by @Monika Gause:

  • OS and the exact version of Illustrator
  • Is the issue related to a specific document? If yes, could you please share the document with us? You can upload it to the Creative Cloud (https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/share.html) and share the download link.
  • Is this happening with new files as well?
  • Copy & save the file to Desktop and follow your workflow as mentioned above and see if this helps resolve the issue.
  • Where are you saving the files (Network Drive/ System HDD/ Shared Folder on System/ External HDD)?
  • When did this start happening? Are there any recent changes made to your system? For example, any antivirus, system updates, or web extensions installed recently.
  • Does resetting Illustrator Preferences ( https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/using/setting-preferences.html) help to resolve the issue?
Disclaimer: Please note that resetting preferences will remove all the custom settings, and Illustrator will launch with default settings. You can also take a backup of the folders in case you want to. Location is mentioned in the article.

We are here to help. We just need more information.

Thanks & Regards,

Anshul Saini

Thank you for sharing the details. I agree with @Monika Gause. To try and prevent this from happening in the future, here are some tips that should help:-

  1. It's best to save files locally to your computer.
  2. Always save to multiple locations if possible.
  3. Save your files as Cloud documents (https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/using/cloud-documents.html).

Please feel free to reach out if you run into any other questions or issues in the future. We'd be happy to help.

Regards,

Anshul Saini

Which version, which system?

Where did you save the file?

Which file format? Which options?

Probably the setting "Save in background" in the preferences messed with saving.

Probably there are issues with a network.

Please describe step by step what you did and what you opened in which app in order to check what got saved.

1. Opened the illustrator
2. Open my previous artwork, save as a new copy
3. Using this new copy to design my brochure
4. Save a few times while doing my design
5. Exported to jpeg
6. Save again
7. save the Ai file as another file with different name
8. When I open the Ai file again, my design gone, it goes back to #2

The last artworks that I did, I forgot to save another version. Within a couple of seconds, I open back the file, it is latest version. However, I closed and reopen again, the design all gone.. it goes back to the old version..

Did you save to a network? Networked volumes tend to cause issues for some people.

And also that setting "Save in background" can cause what you described.

Have you searched for the files? Are you sure you opened the latest one you saved?

Is there a backup available? Time Machine or the like?
