Saving Illustrator 2021 files insanely slow, AIRobin maxes out processor

I've noticed a weird problem when I save files in Illustrator 2021 on my Mac, if they're over about 10MB in size.  The save progress gets to the point where the temp file says it's 9.8MB, and then the "Saving XX%" stalls at whatever percent it was at.  AIRobin then maxes out the CPU, and then the save progress will eventually move up a few percentage points at a time, until it finally finishes saving and AIRobin goes idle.

The big issue (besides taking 15-20 minutes to save a file to an internal SSD, which used to be instantaneous, or nearly so, with AI 2020) is that if the file's big enough, the i9 in my MacBook Pro gets pretty freakin' hot after running maxed out for 15+ minutes.

Anyone else experiencing similar issues?

And, as of 24 January 2022, mine still saves insanely slow to a local drive. Doesn't matter whether I use a fast Gaming PC or a Mac, new or old, the problem is the same: Saving an Adobe Illustrator document is still crazy slow which has been a show stopper productivety-wise to the point I use alternatives like Figma and Sketch for some vector work to save time lost waiting on illustrator constantly..

Can't believe it's still like this going on 2 YEARS LATER! It's as if any file I want to save is being saved in the cloud somewhere using an old dial-up connection, yes 15 to 20 minutes for ANY file that's more than 10 or 20MB. And, don't accidently click on anything while it's saving or it just crashes. But, prior to 2020, my .ai files would save almost instantly like you mentioned.

Have you tried turnibg off Save in Background in Preferences?
