Scale object without scaling the freeform gradient?

Hi,

Was wondering if something like this is possible. I would like to scale my rectangle (either with the Select Tool or Direct Selection tool) and have my gradient points stand where they stand now.

Hope this is possible. 🙂

All gradients scale proportionally with their containers. I would suggest that if MikeGondek's suggestion of creating the rectangle first is not possible you might set guides to mark the locations of the freeform gradient points before scaling the rectangle so that you can reset the gradient points to their original site. Recognizing, of course, that this may be tedious and even difficult with a complex gradient. You might post a feature request here to address this issue.

I think Peter's solution hits the nail.

Place guides across those gree gradient points, lock guides.

Then scale the object, and replace the free gradient points back to the original positions.

Remember the gradients, color transition or gradation blend, extends around even further the object path or border. placing a flat background (a rectangle) behind will not work at all.

Is easier to create rectangle the size you need, and pull the gradient annotator handles afterwardss.

If you need to resize the rectangle and not the gradient contents, would make a copy on top and use as a mask.

If it was a pattern, you could uncheck pattern, but that does not exist for gradients.
