Scaled correctly - but now the strokes are not connected

I want letters in two different sizes to have the same stroke width. In Transform the boxes are unchecked and in Scale too. But now the strokes from the scaled letter (on the left) are not connected anymore. Any ideas how to fix this?

What @Met1 said. Also, you will need to bring your vertical down as well. Turn on Smart Guides so you can easily snap the points over and down. You should also consider joining the two points at upper left for a nice corner.

    Make sure the end of the bowl of the R is touching the center of the upright, just like you have the curved tail touching...
