Question

Scaling down a pattern

I would like to use a pattern in the library for a dress design.

I want something that's muted in color and small in detail.

How do I make a pattern from the library smaller?

Or is there a way to take something from the Basic Graphics/Textures and give it a soft background color - something other than white and that will be opaque?

You could also just resize the pattern on its own without reworking the Pattern.

Resizing the Pattern from the Scale Dialog Box

  1. Choose the item
  2. Double click on the scale tool
  3. Check on Transform pattern. Turn off Transform Object.
  4. Choose your scale size
  5. Choose OK

Resizing the Pattern from the Transform Panel

  1. Choose the item
  2. In the options of the panel choose Transform Pattern Only

  3. Scale the pattern using the W: & H: Just put a % after the value so it won't use a measurement.

Sizing the the Transform Panel Dragging on the Image with the Scale Tool

  1. Choose the object the you want to scale.
  2. Select the Scale tool
  3. Drag the scale tool on the image while holding the tilde (`~) key.
