Scaling gradients

Hi!

I'm just wondering: I want to scale down a gradient so that it keeps the colours and everything but on a more detailed level. The below image illustrates what I want to do: I want the small details from the above pattern repeated in the large shape. Is this possible for Illustrator to do seamlessly...?

Gradients do not "repeat" automatically. In this case it would be best to create a vertical "Pattern" then apply the pattern to the large object and rotate only the pattern within the shape.
