Question

Screen Dims Only When Using Illustrator

My screen brightness automatically dims when I'm using Illustrator. I don't have this problem with any other apps/programs. I have a Surface Book 2 and am using Windows 10. I've changed all of my power/screen/performance settings to run at full power. I've read posts and replies from other people with this issue that have claimed to solve it by turning off the MSI X Boost app. I don't see this app anywhere on my computer. It's making it extremely difficult to work in Illsutrator bc I can't see my work very well. I am begging for a solution and beyond frustrated with Adobe at the moment.

Hi @Ash Kay G,

I'm sorry to hear about the screen brightness issue you're facing in Illustrator. Let's try a few troubleshooting steps to see if we can resolve it:

  • Turn Off Adaptive Brightness:

    • Open the Control Panel on your Surface Book 2.
    • Navigate to "Hardware and Sound."
    • Select "Power Options."
    • Click "Change plan settings" next to your current power plan.
    • Then, click "Change advanced settings."
    • Expand the "Display" section.
    • You should see "Enable adaptive brightness" listed under it.
    • Turn it off for both battery and plugged-in states.
    • Click "OK."
    • Repeat these steps for all power plans you use.
  • Switch to White UI in Illustrator:

    • In Illustrator, go to "Edit" > "Preferences" > "User Interface."
    • Under the "UI brightness" section, choose "Light" for a white interface.
    • This can help reduce the contrast between Illustrator's dark interface and your work, potentially making it easier to see.
  • Check for Graphics Driver Updates:

    • Ensure that your graphics drivers are up to date. Outdated drivers can sometimes cause display issues.
    • Visit the official website of your graphics card manufacturer (NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel) to download and install the latest drivers.
  • Verify Windows Update: Sometimes, Windows updates can also address compatibility issues. Make sure your system is up to date by checking for Windows updates.

  • Contact Microsoft Support: Since this issue appears to be related to your Surface Book 2 and its unique hardware and software integration, you might want to reach out to Microsoft's support for further assistance.

I hope one of these solutions helps resolve the screen dimming problem in Illustrator on your Surface Book 2. If not, Microsoft Support should be able to provide more specific guidance for your device.

Best,
