Hey! I am getting an error every time I open Illustrator:

Script error in C:/ program files X86/ common files /Adobe/ Startup Scripts CC / Adobe In design / indesign/v17.0.jsx

Line 1:

I/= error

How can I fix it?

    Correct answer Anshul_Saini

    Hi,

Is there a solution to this problem? I'm experiencing the same problem. Don't know if the issue is connected, but when I try to export files containing high resolution images as PDF with the illustrator default setting the Illustrator-app crashes. When I try to load a color from libraries nothing happens.

I've tried renaming the folder to "Startup Scripts CC.old" this takes away the error message, but the other issues continue.

I am running v.26.2.1(64-bit) and Windows is updated, and I do not have the Bridge app installed.

Recently tried to uninstall every app and creative cloud desktop app and reinstalled it again, this did not fix the issues.

Hope this issue will be fixed soon

    Hi @StianShowoff @SARA22110113elm8,

We are sorry for the trouble. We are investigating this issue, and we had a debug session with a couple of users, and deleting the Startup Scripts CC folder worked for them 100%.

Please share the screenshot of the error you are getting.

Also, I would suggest you delete it from the correct location. For some people moving the folder to Desktop or deleting it from a couple of locations has worked:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe

Let me know if it works for you.

I will be looking forward to your response.

    Thanks & Regards,

Have managed to fix it - it's a Windows permissions error:

This is the technical fix for an "I/O error." You need to take ownership of the Startup Scripts CC folder and grant your user account full control.

    Using File Explorer (GUI)

    • Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\.
    • Right-click the Startup Scripts CC folder and select Properties.
    • Go to the Security tab and click the Advanced button.
    • At the top, next to "Owner:", click the Change link.
    • In the "Enter the object name to select" box, type your Windows username. Click Check Names (it should underline your name) and click OK.
    • Check the box that says "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects."
    • Click Apply. You might see a few security pop-ups; just click Yes or OK.
    • After it has applied the new owner, click the Add button (on the same Advanced Security Settings window).
    • Click the "Select a principal" link at the top.
    • Type your username again, click Check Names, and click OK.
    • In the "Basic permissions" section, check the box for Full control.
    • Click OK, then OK again to close all windows.
    • Restart your computer and then try launching Illustrator. (Don't be tempted to skip restarting.)

Illustrator is trying to read the file but your user account (or the application) is being denied permission at the file-system level. This explains why it moves to the next file when you delete/rename one but removing the folder will work as a work around (albeit breaking Bridge automations in the process); it's a folder-level access problem, not a file-specific one.

    Hi @Web+Silk,

Thank you for reaching out, and I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing this issue. To help resolve the problem, you can try deleting the Startup Scripts CC folder from the following locations:

    1. C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe
    2. C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe

For some users, moving the Startup Scripts CC folder to the Desktop or deleting it from these locations has worked as a solution.

Please give it a try and let us know if it helps resolve the script error. If you encounter any other issues or need further assistance, feel free to reach out. We're here to help!

    Best regards,

I've been getting this same Script Error, in Illustrator. The first one had the name InDesign in it, even though this PC hasnt ever run InDesign, as far as I know. I deleted that specific file and the problem stopped. Only to return again this time with the word PhotoshopCC. I have run Psd on this PC so I was cautious to delete the file but did anyway. Now it is happening with the word Illustrator in the Error report. It happens every single day in fact, once for every new file I create. I lose 5 minutes of work and a few more to restart. getting (recovered) file names everywhere. I am about to delete the whole folder but my boss will be paranoid about that!!

    Hi @Victoria Parre @mttorley @markv75295749 @mingmonster26,

We are sorry for the trouble. I would request you to share a few details like:

    • The exact version of OS and its built number
    • The exact version of Illustrator
    • When did this start happening? Are there any recent changes made to your system? For example, any antivirus, system updates, plugins, or web extensions installed recently.
    • Would it be possible for you to compress the Startup Script folder in the Zip file from the location mentioned in error and upload it to Creative Cloud/ Dropbox or any other similar service and share the download link here with us?

Also, when does this error pop up while launching the app or while using the app? Does the app close/ crash or start not responding after clicking on the "Ok" button?

We are here to help. We just need more information.

    Thanks & Regards,

    Anshul Saini

I am glad to say that with the latest Windows 11 update that I ran YESTERDAY, I can no longer replicate the error.

I am also experiencing this error- with the same version 26 start date.

Same issue exists for me.  It's a program error from Adobe in my opinion that needs to be fixed.
Only started happening when version's 26 started coming out, so suspect developers have cocked something up.
It's not helpful I know, but find it exceptionally frustrating.

Same problem here, other than that I can't save my files as well, everytime I try to save it my ai will crash and show " the operation can't complete bcs of an unknown error." .-.

hi to whoever facing the same issue, I contacted Adobe team and we tried to fix this issue months ago, but it took me for two weeks (insane...) and they still can't find out what caused this. After that I gave up and uninstall the entire adobe cloud and re-dowload it. and... guess what, everything back to normal.
Unfortunately Im facing the same problem now again but instead of contacting the adobe team, I will just repeat the same steps which is uninstall adobe cloud and reinstall the softwares... not sure the problem is from windows 10 or new updates from adobe but im kinda used to it already.. 🙂

    Hi @mingmonster26 ,

Sorry to hear about the trouble caused. This is not the experience we want you to have. We were able to resolve the issue for many users by deleting the "Startup Scripts CC" folder from the following location:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe

Let me know if it works for you.

I will be looking forward to your response.

    Thanks & Regards,

I've moved this from the Using the Community forum (which is the forum for issues using the forums) to the Illustrator forum so that proper help can be offered.
