Question

Selecting Handles

For the life of me it takes around 3 to 5 frustrating clicks to be able to select a handle.

I'm using the latest version of CC Illustrator (needs to be renamed to Frustrater!)

The problem is, even after changing the size in preference of the anchors and handles, there just isn't enough detection around the handle to know that I'm trying to click it.

Doesn't help also that the Direct Selection Tool has a white pixel outline, so when on a white background my focus is on the black inner outline, which seems to be the part of the arrow that doesn't select anything.

I give up with your software, it's slowing me down and frustrating me.

Moving on to something better.

The sharp part of the pointer, is the center, and using Smart Guides as Jacob suggests, confirms that.

Possibly you are zoomed out very far or something else is contributing to your Frustrator experience, but selecting bezier handles is an issue you should be able to overcome with some patience, communication and possibly our help here at the forums.

    Andrew,

If not too late, you may consider Smart Guides which can really be your friends, telleing when you are within selecting/snaping distance of whatever you are after.

Thanks, I've been using Smart Guides for a while, and whilst I've changed some preferences, I still find it snaps around too much for the type of work I'm doing at the moment. Either way, I remember the good old days of Freehand fondly.
