Set Rules for Intertwine - Braiding

I'm making a 3 rope braid, and the intertwine tool is amazing for it. That said, it would be nice if it was a little smarter/more powerful. For example, in the image below I manually set each intersection on the left, but on the right you can see some of the intersections were too tight to get a good clean intertwine. In this pattern you'll notice that anytime two ropes meet there is a simple rule: Green goes over Red, Red goes over Yellow, and Yellow goes over Green. It would be nice if I could just set these rules so that I wouldn't have to handle each intersection manually. That would be especially beneficial when I don't have room to intertwine, like the ropes on the right side.
