Hey,

I downloaded a dog paw pattern from the internet and want to use it in illustrator graphic art. I just started my jurney with adoby so it propably will be simple solution. Its in "square" that layer over the rest of the graphic. How to change it into a shape?

It is probably a pixel image. When you activate it and then in Window > Layers click on the search button at the bottom of the panel. then what does the Layers panel say about it?

 

If it's an image, then you can use Image Trace to vectorize it. You need to Expand it after tracing and then delete the white.

In some cases, both vector and raster versions are available. Depending on the source it may be worth looking for a/the vector version.

 

In addition to what Monika said, if you are satisfied with a raster image, you can also change the image to a PNG with transparency in Photoshop and use that.

I cant use image trace tool

There can be other reasons for its showing a white background than its being a raster image, and in those cases something else needs to be done; different things in different cases.

 

Therefore it is crucial to give an answer to the question Monika has asked.

 

Or there may be reasons yet to be found for your inability to use image trace even if it is a raster image.
