Shape distorted after deleting anchor point

Hi everyone! I just updated my illustrator to the newest version and now whenever I delete an anchor point, either the shape distorts or there are handles appear. This didn't happen in the old version and it's making me very frustrated. Is there a way to turn this feature off?
