Shapebuilder Help Please

Hi. I am trying to merge objects and I am finding that the shapebuilder tool works for some shapes (when I have two rectangles against one another), but not for others (a half circle against a rectangle). I assumed that I had not intersected the objects, but in fact I did. I am really new at Illustrator and getting stuck on my first few lessons. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

I don’t think they overlap. Nudge the circles over a little bit Or just use whole circles to make it easier.

I love shapebuilder - one of my favorite tools. It should work for any objects.

Make sure you have your objects all selected. Can you post a screenshot of what you are trying to do?

I am trying to merge the half circles into the rectangle. It worked for rectangles on artboard 2, but it doesn't show up as well.

Thanks for your fast reply!

both the rectangle and the half circle need to be selected and they must completely overlap, that's all it is required to work.
