Question

Share for review links using old filenames

Hi all,

I’m having ongoing issues with Illustrator’s Share for Review links and I’m wondering if anyone else is seeing the same behaviour.

What happens:

  1. I create a new file, then go to Share for Review and generate a link.

  2. Illustrator keeps pulling through filenames from previous jobs, even when I’m in a brand new file.

  3. To fix it, I end up removing the review link, creating a new one, or sometimes starting a completely new file from scratch.

  4. I send the review link to the client, but when they open it, it sometimes shows a completely different review link, like it has connected to another project.

  5. Comments then do not always appear properly inside Illustrator, so I have to review feedback in the web browser instead.

The weird part:
It feels like Illustrator is caching old Share for Review data and mixing it across multiple projects. It even pulls through project names from 3 or 4 jobs ago.

What I’ve tried:

  • Closing and reopening Illustrator

  • Resetting and restarting

  • Running updates

Still happening.

Questions:

  • Is anyone else getting this issue?

  • Is there a known fix or setting to stop Share for Review from reusing old filenames/links?

  • Any reliable workflow to avoid creating brand new review links every single time?

Thanks in advance. This is turning into a time sink.

I am having this exact issue as well. I have reset, restarted, renamed, moved documents, etc. as recommended. I’ve installed updates to all CC apps and my OS. This is incredibly frustrating. It does not sound like any solution has been found (based on other posts about this problem) despite having been reported several months ago.

    Hello @Amber_actually

I’m sorry to hear you’re having similar trouble with Illustrator. Could you please confirm the exact versions of the OS/Illustrator installed, check whether this happens with specific files, and share screenshots/a brief screen recording of the problem so we can investigate further?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Sure! Here’s a file I’m working on now. This is a new document I created and saved today - not a duplicate of an older file. When I clicked the share link, you can see the document names do not match. When this happens, I have to create a fresh link for my client each and every time I post a revision.

My Mac is running OS 26.3.1 (a) and Illustrator is 30.2.1.

@studiovine I just tried, and had no issues. I have no other Illustrator document open, and even tried with others open, just in case to see if I get the same results. No issues.

I would clear your Illustrator Preferences. If you open your Illustrator Preferences (Command K for the MAC) or Control K (for the PC) — there should be a button that says ‘reset preferences’. Go ahead and click on that. It will reset everything back to it’s default just as you brand new Illustrator so any custom set-ups will be gone (save that if you do to save some time setting up).

Hang on, are you using Illustrator on the Web? If so, I would also clear the history, cache and cookies  in your web browser, as you mentioned ‘caching old share for review’

If you are not on the web, I would clear the cache of Adobe Illustrator. You may need to enter ‘cache’ on a PC, but on a MAC, it’s Library/Caches/Adobe/Adobe Illustrator

    good Luck!

Hello, thanks, i reset all the preferences and still the same, if you see the screenshot shows a different file name, should be 14615 but its caching or going to another file. I then opened another and its doing the same the share link is opening to another file

@studiovine whoa…. are those folders on your desktop? Keep the actual files and folders in "Documents" and just put a Shortcut (Alias) on the Desktop. If your profile gets corrupted and locks you out, recovering those files from the Desktop is a headache; they’re essentially "trapped" inside that broken account...always save to her hard drive.

Actually move that folder 14615 to your hard drive, and share it again, if that changes it?
