Shift-dragging points and Smart Guides in AICC2017 on OSX 10.12.1

May I trouble someone to confirm this with a set-up with CC2017 and Sierra?

(I'm on a new iMac but suspect that's not relevant.)

1. Turn on Smart Guides

2. Draw an open or closed path with any tool

3. Select any point on the path with a point selection tool (DS, Lasso)

4. With Direct Selection tool, try to shift-drag the point in any direction

I'm getting erratic behavior following these steps. Most commonly,

the point is snapping back to its pre-dragged location. If I drag

very slowly, I can move the point, properly constrained by the shift key,

but eventually it snaps back.

If I turn off Smart Guides and repeat steps 2-4, the constrained movement

is as expected.

Wondering if this is replicable or resulting from a plug-in (or other) on my

machine. I'm getting identical behavior with up-to-date VectorScribe from

Astute Graphics (although the dragged point jumps to the artboard's 0,0

location, not back onto itself). In both cases, I've tested a Wacom tablet

and a Magic Mouse. Both show the weirdness

Thanks.

I can confirm on my MacBook pro with CC2017  the behavior you are experiencing. It seems that if Smart Guides are active and you use the shift key you must move the mouse/cursor EXACTLY along the default constrained  angles or the point will appear to snap back to its origin. If you stray even slightly it will do this but if you correct as you drag and find the perfect angle again, it will fix itself.

With smart guides off you don’t have to be as careful and even if your cursor strays from the actual constrained angle Illustrator will continue to show you the position the moved point will eventually take even though it is no longer under your cursor. Feels like a bug that you should document http://www.adobe.com/products/wishform.html

On the other hand, if you are using smart guides you don’t really need to hold down the shift key, just move the point to a new position and make sure the smart guide is visible when you release. That will accomplish the same result.
