Since June 2023 update Illustrator crashes frequently

Anyone else experiencing this? Seems to crash especially if I'm using the new image trace, which I hate. Is there a way to revert back to the old image trace?

You are not alone.

Yes, you can go back to a previous version.

In the CC app go to Apps > All Apps

Next to Illustrator you will see 3 dots

Click and select Other Versions

You can Uninstall Illustrator and install the previous version or leave the current Illustrator installed and install an additional previous version.

Upüdated the iPad OS? In that case try and turn off the Apple Pencil Effects in the system settings.

Indeed, It crashes for me every 35 minutes, using image trace, placing objects, resizing fonts, converting vector lines, and if I am using elements outside the art board, those elements will not be recovered when loading the program back again, and sometimes what is recovered is an image like a screenshot of the art board, no vector files, that is even worse, I had encountered so many ways this update crashes illustrator, I just got creative.

The only way to survive this update from illustrator cc until Adobe fix it, is doing the following:

  1. Expand your art board to max, this way when illustrator CRASHES, at least you do not lose any other design elements outside the art board.
  2. Let say by the time you read this post you lost some files, I actually was on your shoes a week ago, when important files were lost and losing them were not negotiable for me, then I did the following after really thinking to downgrade to last year version which was more stable for me:
  • PC or MAC search for this file folder location: AIDTemp.aid
  • I am using a PC I found it on the C:username/Appdata/Roaming/Adobe/Adobe illustrator/ 27.6.1/SystemCompatibilityReport/27.6/win/  look for the [.aid file], mine looks like this (AIDBTemp16869531233046008905088.aid) /look for the latest .aid file and FORCE to open in illustrator, when you click to open, select illustrator software to open it.
  • This file is the latest illustrator file right before illustrator CRASHED.
  • Resave it, expand your art board to max screen on illustrator, and keep working on it
  • Illustrator will continue crashing more often, but at least you do not lose your files completely this time.
  • Hope that helps!

All this does is send you to a page to learn about report crashes. What a waste of time. Ironically the title is "In the unlikely event of Illustrator crashing" Why do we have to keep putting up with garbage service from Adobe, you charge so much and never fix your broken monopolised apps. Stop focusing on AI that's falsely advertised and random little features and focus on performance, stability and functionality.

When will your services catch up to your prices, I can't wait for the day you have a competitor in the market that forces you to step up that you don't buy up to add to your "collection"

For me, illustrator 23 and 24 crashes when left idle for an hour or so and this has been happening for a while now. I've used two machines and it's all updated and the same thing keeps happening. Illustrator feels so clunky and old these days on top of these crashes.

Step up or you'll loose all your customers once something else comes along.
