Sluggish/Delayed mouse movement on Illustrator when Rulers are turned on MAC OS
Hi,
I've spent good 2-3 hours browsing the forums for what might be causing sluggish/delayed movement when working on Illustrator.
I just recently started working on a MacBook Pro 15 (2018) i7 8th Gen and started to encounter delayed mouse movements that I've never experienced before on my desktop PC. This laptop is frankly twice more powerful than the PC.
Diagnosing the problem:
Initially I thought it was the wireless mouse, so I tried a wired mouse, then I suspected it might be the USB-C hub that was causing the delay so I tried to see what using the trackpad felt like, and to my surprise, the movements within Illustrator (and later found out Photoshop and InDesign) still felt sluggish and uncomfortable!!!
I tried all the suggestions and played with the preferences; re-installed the newest version, and even installed previous version of Illustrator.
Nothing helped.
Finally, I created a new file in Illustrator, and this one seemed to be working sharp and fast using the wireless mouse. One file's mouse movements were slow and sluggish, the other right next to it were fast and sharp... not until I turned on the ruler...
The Problem:
Googled it and saw that this problem has been going on in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, for years now.. and it just feels embarrassing to be experiencing issues like this on a professional workstation. I've always worked with rulers on on my PC and it never made a problem, so I completely disregarded the idea that they could be causing the problematic mouse/trackpad response.
When can we expect these delayed mouse movements to stop happening on machines that are working with performances well above the required???
