Snap anchor points together across separate layers in Adobe Illustrator

Hi guys!

So I'm new to Illustrator and am trying to figure out if there is a way to "snap" anchor points to each other. I've included a picture. When zoomed out you can't tell that they aren't on top of each other but this is a logo design so if it's blown up for a poster or banner, etc, I don't want these imperfections to show. The shapes are on two separate layers as circled in the image and I'm trying to snap the anchor point shown on layer 13 copy to the anchor point on the Tail layer. I've tried holding down shift when using the edit anchor points tool but it doesn't allow me to place it directly. Please let me know your suggestions or if I can provide more information.

Thank you!

Another way, sometimes appropriate, is to    ( best first switch temporarily to View > Outline mode )

drag a selection marquee, .with the direct selection tool -white arrow - over the 2 anchor  points, and Object > Path  >Average  > both .

Which moves both, or more points to the same spot  by averaging.

if you are just stacking the anchor points in the same spot, them being  on different  layers  or the same doesn't make any difference.

Switch off  View > Snap to Grid  , at least temporarily , if you need smart guides feedback

In cases like that using the Lasso Tool to select anchor points is the most quick option to do.
- Select your points by Lasso Tool
- Right Click and Choose Average ( Both ) as Ray Yorkshire said.

Angela,

As I (mis)understand it (that you wish to just move one of the objects without changing its shape), with Smart Guides as your friends, you can simply deselect everything, then with the normal Selection Tool (black arrow) ClickDrag the object to move by the relevant (corner) Anchor Point until it snaps to the corresponding Anchor Point of the object to stay (Smart Guides will say anchor, both when you are close enough to start ClickDragging and when you are within snapping distance of the other Anchor Point).

Hello, for some reason, my Smart Guides are not showing and the object doesn't snap to the corresponding Anchor Point. What can I do to fix this?

yojolo,

Hopefully, the links (after yours at the top) in this HelpX search can solve the riddle (and you can insert terms for other help pages),

https://helpx.adobe.com/search-results.html?q=Smart+Guides+Illustrator&scope=%5B%22helpx%22%5D&subscope=%5B%5D&limit=10&start_index=0&sort_orderby=relevancy&sort_order=desc&post_facet_filters=%7B%22applicable_products%22%3A%5B%5D%7D

Otherwise, in which sense does this apply,"my Smart Guides are not showing"?

With the Direct Selection tool and nothing selected, drag one anchor point on top of the other. Make sure Snap to Point is on in the View menu.

Or select both anchor points and use the Alignment panel to align the two selected anchor point.
