Snap to Guides?

I could *swear* I've been using Snap to Guides for many many versions of Illustrator. But now, I can neither locate it (wasn't it with Snap to Pixel and the others in the View menu?), nor do items actually snap readily to guides that I set up. This seems counterintuitive to a vector-based program to me. I need precision in my drawings. I set up my guides and expect to be able to snap a shape into place at those guides. What am I missing? This used to be super simple. It works great in Photoshop, but not Illustrator?

Nowadays, the command is "Snap to Point", and it does work for guides (at least on my setup - Illustrator 22.0.1 on MacOS Sierra 10.12.6) - Take a look at How to use rulers, grids, and guides in Illustrator

You'll need to scroll to see their text:

Snap objects to anchor points and guides

  • Choose View > Snap To Point.

  • Select the object you want to move, and position the pointer on the exact point you want to align with anchor points and guides.
Note:When snapping to a point, the snapping alignment depends on the position of the pointer, not the edges of the dragged object.
  • Drag the object to the desired location.

When the pointer comes within 2 pixels of an anchor point or guide, it snaps to the point. When a snap occurs, the pointer changes from a filled arrowhead to a hollow arrowhead.
