Hi! I need help if anyone is avail! I drew an entire comic strip with pencil and curves, not realizing to fill it in with color I would need to create actual shapes with these paths. I cannot join the paths, it tells me they are too complex. I have no idea what to do : * ( I'm on a deadline

You must have more than one live paint group. Follow the advice of the pop up window.

Hit K to switch to the live paint bucket tool, and poor in your colors. Hover over what you want to fill with color. You can then use your left and right cursor keys to choose form you predefined swatch colors, and click to fill.
