Struggling alot with this Logo

Im trying to create this logo, but cant make it for a life of me, using shape builder doesnt help, i always get unwanted result. Anybody have any ideas how to make it? i used thick strokes

    Object > Path > Outline stroke will make a shape out of your fat stroke. On that you can use the shapebuilder (or live paint or other construction methods).

    You have to expand strokes in order to build this.
