Stuck on "Illustrator is currently saving the document"

I've had this happen a few times over the past days. Most documents save fine, but sometimes a document gets stuck when saving (with the message "Illustrator is currently saving the document ... and will close it once the save process is complete") and the only way I can close Illustrator is by ending the Windows process.

Any ideas? This is on 24.0.2 on Windows 7.

Sorry to hear you are facing this issue. Could you please confirm the version of Illustrator and the operating system you are working on? It would also help to know if this happens with all files or only with some. In the meantime, as suggested, try turning off the 'Save in background' option under Preferences > File Handling and see if the save completes normally. You can also test the issue in safe mode to rule out any third-party app conflict.

Where do you save? Cloud documents? Local hard drive, synchronized folder ... ? On Win 7 Cloud documents are not supported. https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/system-requirements.html

What do you save? AI, PDF, ...

Which options?

Which preferences in File handling & clipboard?

I'm saving on my local hard drive, as an AI, with standard options.

I haven't changed any preference from the default, so they are:

[ON] ‘Automatically save recovery data every 2 minutes’

[ON 'Turn off data recovery for complex documents’

[ON] ‘Save in background’

[ON] ‘Export in background’

I have recently bought a new computer and am slowly transferring my workflow over to it, so hopefully this should improve some of the quirks and instabilities of Illustrator.

Can you try and turn off the background save?

Also:there is enough space on the disk for saving?
