superposition of colours in illustrator

I am trying to create a logo with two shapes, one in front of the other.

How could I make the parts that are on top of each other be less opaque, or make the colours mix?

Or use Live Paint and give the area where they overlap a different color.

You may have a look at blending modes.

Or maybe use intermediate colours or reduced opacity possibly in connexion with a division of the paths where the overlapping part(s) form(s) tis/their own path(s); you can use Pathfinder Divide (and Ungroup or hold Alt/Option and use the Direct Selection Tool (after deselecting the (whole) Group).
