Hi All,

I have been struggling for a while to export 3D objects designed in illustrator to svg without loosing the edges. I think this has something to do with the shading ? I've attached the files to show what I mean.

You have used 3D and materials. It will be rasterized when you export it.

Thanks @Monika Gause for your help. Would you suggest avoiding 3D and materials when needing to export to SVG ?

I also have a problem in print when placing the object, as a pdf, on a non-white background. I see markings around these 3D objects only once printed.

If 3D and materials is a pain, it would be great if you could point me in the direction of some content where I can learn to get a similar effect and be made aware of the caveats.

You can get this effect with either raster based effects (apart from 3D&materials you could use inside glow) or with blends (which will create ac ouple of objects) or maybe with gradients on strokes or with gradient meshes (not supported by the SVG standard). So those are your options. I do not know what is your goal with the SVG.
