Question

Swatches being duplicated when objects are pasted in new doc

Hi,

I am a long time Adobe Illustrator user working as an apparel designer having and issue the Adobe team was unable to solve.  When I create objects filled with the same swatch in separate documents and then bring them into a new document the swatches are being duplicated (I'm creating CAD files and then bringing those CADs onto a line sheet).  This leaves me unable to use features like "select same fill" and making my new files HUGE.  I have been using the same work flow for about 15 years and only recently (past 10 months) encountered the issue.  Please see my process below:

-Create a swatch library by pulling JPGs into a doc and then dragging those JPGs into my swatch palette

-Create DOC 1 and open my swatch library through swatches palette, create OBJECT 1 and fill with SWATCH A

-Create DOC 2 and open my swatch library through swatches palette, create OBJECT 2 and fill with SWATCH A

-Create DOC 3, copy and paste OBJECT 1 into DOC 3 and OBJECT 2 into DOC 3 - swatch library will show "SWATCH A" and "SWATCH A 2" ...previously in this workflow at this point the swatch library would only show one swatch- "SWATCH A" as they were filled using the same original swatch from the same library

Has anyone else experienced this or have thoughts on why this might be happening?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hello @Kathryn25415325dd8c,

I tried replicating this behavior on my end, but could not. Would you mind sharing some more details, like the exact version of the OS/Illustrator, system config (CPU/GPU/Memory), a public link to a sample file after uploading it to Dropbox/Google Drive/etc., and a screen recording of the problem (https://adobe.ly/4km4Tju), so we can investigate this further?

Looking forward to hearing from you.
