Swiss typography guides.

Hello! 

I've been getting a lot into swiss typography(Joseph Muller Brockman, Massimo Vignelli, etc) and i wanted to learn how to set up guides/grids like them (3X4, 4X8, etc) but can't seem to find a good resource on how to create accurate guides with proper spacing and gutter. Is there a resource anyone can point me to?
