Hello,

So I have an object that i've made into a symbol and then through map art placed it onto a cylinder. But whenever I do the symbol has areas that gap open. The blend is at 256, when i made the symbol I chose 'graphic' and dynamic symbol.

this is my design^,

this is how it shows up once mapped.

Hi Abigail,

I would like to know if the suggestions shared by Ray worked for you, or the issue still persists.

Kindly update the discussion if you need further assistance with it.

Thanks,

Why are you using a blend? If the gradient is important you could add a separate gradient over the top and set it to "Multiply".

Also, did you try a "Static Symbol"? The ONLY advantage of a dynamic symbol is the ability to change fill and stroke on an instance. There are many disadvantages. This may be one of them.

One more question: Did you by chance illustrate your dog (nice by the way) using Live Paint? It would be a great method for this style. It might also be more forgiving when mapped since the dividing lines are shared by adjacent colors, so distortions may not be visible in the rendered piece.

Making it a static symbol did reduce the gaping significantly, almost to a point of being noticed but when zoomed in significantly there is slight gaping still. For most of my designs though there is no gaping (given that I rasterize it first) when they're a "Static Symbol"

Also I didn't use live paint, when it comes to illustrator, I would consider myself at an intermediate skill level so there are still some features of illustrator I have yet to discover, live paint being one of them!

if i rasterize the design before making it into a symbol it doesn't gap
