Question

Symbols with pattern fill issue,

Hi,

I'm having issues with symbols.

When I fill a symbol with a vector pattern, if I go into the symbol to edit it, or if I save the document and re-open it the stroke around the shape (filled with the pattern) disappears.  This only happens to the pattern filled symbols.  Plain colours are fine after editing/saving.

I'm working in CS 2018 on a Mac.

Has anyone else experience this and if yes, is there a solution?

Thanks

You would have already had an answer, had you orignally shared a screenshot that describes exactly how/where you add and modify this stroke.

We need some breadcrumbs to exactly follow the path you took.

This is how I assigned the stroke to the symbol

With the direct  select tool I can edit the symbol without entering the isolation mode

Works fine for me changing the color and thickness of stroke on High Sierra CC 2019

Hi again,

I am now having the same issue with symbols not filled with patterns.  If I work in a document with symbols that I have scaled, close it and re-open at a later date I am finding that strokes on various of my symbol instances are re-scaling themselves and shrinking to become very narrow or disappearing completely, although no changes having been made to the symbol.

It's very irritating.  Any thoughts?

I'm afraid I can't do that, which I realise doesn't help.

Since you mentioned Garment, is the pattern you mentioned a pattern made by Object > Pattern > Make? An Illustrator repeating pattern or a design for a garment?

Please tell us step by step. Beginning with the creation of the symbol.

Also: is this a dynamic or static symbol?

Thanks for getting back to me.

I am creating a line drawing in illustrator of a garment, going to the symbols pallet, clicking new symbol, naming it and leaving the options as set out in the below screen shot.  Therefore it is a 'dynamic symbol'.  I will quite often need to edit the symbol after creating it and will have the symbol on a page multiple times in different colour options.  I always drag a new symbol from the pallet for each colour option as I have notice the that stroke widths change if I copy and past a symbol that I have already coloured.
