"Tagging" objects

Hi. Is it possible to "tag" objects of different kinds in Illustrator? What I mean by tag, is to append a "class" or some sort of "identifier" to objects. Those objects could be of different kinds: type, shape, etc. Then, all objects with that "tag" could be selected at once (and operations could be performed on the selection, like changing appearance). I am not referring to scripting here.

If there is a workaround that would achieve a similar result, please let me know too.

    Sort of. You can save selections under the Select menu. You can also add a 'note' to objects in the Attributes panel, but to make use of this as a selection tool, you need to create an action with a 'select object' step (in the Actions panel menu).

    Thanks Doug. That's a great suggestion, I hadn't used "Save Selection" before and that is fit for purpose in my case. I will try the note suggestion too. If there are any other ways or anyone else has another method, please share. Thanks.
