Question

•  Temporary files eg. “ai174348866415....ai” are created (Mac OS), why?

Hello -

Several of my colleagues are complaining about the creation of temporary Illustrator files that don't disappear (they stay on our server).

So typically:

-  A correct name: "TBT26683_IN_OUT_129_METOO_DESSERT_11REF__SHOOTING.ai".

- a TMP file:  "ai174348866415TBT26683_IN_OUT_129_METOO_DESSERT_11REF__SHOOTING.ai".

Is this a known problem?
Is there a solution?

Our agency context:
- Mix of Mac OS, most are Mac OS “Sonoma” and some “Monterey”.
- Illustrator CC2025 & CC2024.
- Synology® server (we open/save directly on the server, since 20y.)
- Some are working with "multiple spaces" (even on very old Mac Pro (+/- 12y. ago))
- Everyone has two screens.

- …

So yes, what could cause this problem?

Thank you, enjoy your day.

- Dimitri

Hello @dimitri_cas,

Illustrator supports working across networks, removable media, and cloud-synced folders (Google Drive / Dropbox / OneDrive, etc.) and is vigorously tested across multiple configurations. However, not all configurations, including different software, hardware, settings, and access rights, have been tested. Therefore, your configuration can cause errors, crashes, or unexpected behavior. You may learn more about this here: (https://adobe.ly/42ieJLQ).

To avoid such problems, we recommend working on your files from a local directory, like the Desktop, and manually copying them to the removable media, network drive, cloud-synced folder, or using Cloud Documents.

Additionally, check if re-enabling Full Disk Access for Illustrator (https://adobe.ly/4jjeRSh) helps resolve the problem.

Feel free to reach out if you have more questions or need assistance. We'd be happy to help.

Hello Anubhav -

Thanks for you reply…

You know, as I mentioned, we've been working directly on the server for over 20 years now (it's just unthinkable to go back, since we're 20 years later and that would cause far too many human errors (omissions, etc.)).

By the way, I checked and this machine has "Full Disk Access for Illustrator".

Thx

Hello @dimitri_cas,

Thanks for the confirmation. Could you try working from a local folder directory and checking if the problem persists?

Looking forward to hearing from you.
