Text Box to Non-Text Box

Running Illustrator CC 2018 - I'm trying to turn a random shape text box into a non-text box object but can't figure out how to do so. I read a thread that said go to "Object > Content" and change it there but the drop down menu in AI CC 2018 does not have that option. Can any one help with this?

    Matt,

What you read that said "Go to Object > Content" was also about InDesign, and not about Illustrator. Sorry. You won't be able to do that in Illustrator. You could put a Rectangle Effect on an object, I think, but it's not the same thing.

To change a text frame into an Unassigned or Graphic Frame you must first delete the text in the frame. Until you do so the options that are in the Content pull-down will be grayed out. Once the text has been removed you can change the selected frame (selected with the regular selection tool) as shown in the screen shot.

The screen shot shown is from CC 2018.

OOPS! My previous post was for InDesign. This was due to the way the question was asked, however. The option to change a frame using the Content option is an InDesign thing not an Illustrator option.

Take the Group Selection tool and select the path of your text object. Copy and paste.
