Text disappears when trying to outline or expand

I've been outlining text for years, but recently having issues this past month. Any time I select text and try to convert to outlines, it dissapears. Also happens when I try to expand. I've restarted my computer, relaunched Illustrator and still happening. Any thoughts? Attaching a video as an example. [PII removed by moderator]

Can you try Object > Flatten transparency? Check "Outline text" in the dialog.

 

Also: which version is this?

That's very odd. In addition to Monika's suggestion about using the Flatten Transparency command (which would probably work) I would also check the Layers palette to see what is happening there. It looks like some odd nesting of objects is taking place. The object tree in the Layers palette might provide some clues on what is happening. Unknown groups, clipping masks and clipping groups can cause some maddening problems.
