Text editing

How do we do any kind of subtle text editing in Illustrator? I can't even figure out how to make a few characters bold, and neither can the "help" feature. If the program is not capable of something that simple, I need to hurry and get my money back...

Illustrator can make text bold, as well as many other text edits.

To bold certain text characters, select them with the Type tool in the Tools panel.

In the Options bar you can choose Bold.

That is one way to do it. There are other ways as well.

Thanks, Barbara. I saw those options, but the program kept greying them out, etc.

OK, now I am wondering what kind of wierd games the program is playing with me, because for days I was unable to get any of those text features to work, but now most of them do - but not all of the time. The inconsistency is infuriating. Before when I would make selections, the program would usually just ignore me completely, as if there was some magic "do it now" button that needed to be selected after already making command selections, just to make the command buttons work.

Recolor is still giving me fits, no changes there, but I think it is because the Pantone colors I am required to use are no longer available, so the program keeps stubbornly changing my colors. So I will have to copy and paste things like product name banners with colored backgrounds in as image files and hope for the best.

Are these inconsistencies related to AI (aritifical intelligence, not adobe illustrator)? Until I started using my nice new alienware computer with AI, I have never had any computer (that was not about to crash) play these annoying games of "maybe I will, or maybe I think you are stupid and I have a better idea" with me.  Commands that work as instructed only after you repeat them several times, as if the machine wants to make sure you really meant it...WTH?  I am going to back up all of my files and have the AI ripped out my os, because I don't have time for this foolishness.

Bold is only available if you have a bold font style for the font installed.

The Pantone libraries are no longer there, because Pantone decided to end the contract.

Possibly install the oldest available Photoshop version (2022 or the like) and grab the Pantone libraries from it. Then keep them in a safe place and copy to Illustrator when needed.
