Text flowing across columns not down left then right

Hello,

I've tried to find this answer, but it seems I can only find people wanting to do what I have happening to my document.... I have a text box with 2 colums and I want the text to flow down the left colum then into the right but it is flowing across the colums leaving the gutter (so it's not span colums). I feel like there should be a simple toggle on or off for this but cannot find anything to fix it!

Can we see this with all visibility and Hidden Characters turned on? That might help.

Your screen looks like made from InDesign, not Illustrator. Is it so?
In Indesign paragraphs can take one column or span some columns and go through. Then all 1-column paragraphs comes between spanned lines. As far as I can see you have Title settings as Span columns. To make the text come down and then right, change the Title style: in Span Columns option choose Single Column.

Yes, this is Indesign, sorry new to these forums so thought I was putting this in the right place! Yes, we figured it out.... my subheading was span columns but the main text was not, but not sure still why the heading above would affect the main text when it was not span columns? There was separate formatting applied to each. What if you wanted the title to span columns but not the main text?

So the area text options dialog box does not help? Find it in the Type menu.

We looked through the options in that box, no did not fix it....it was changing the above subheading that fixed it. thank you for responding to me!
