Question

text on an asset my designer created

Hey guys,

I paid a designer to create some assets for IG for me. He had agreed to teach me how to edit text and photos on the assets but he bailed on that promise. So now I am trying to learn on my own. I have never used AI before so I am very beginner. I opened an asset he created for me and I wish to edit the text. When I try to click on the T icon im not able to edit the text. Meaning the cursor doen't even blink like it does with other assets he created. He lives in Eurore on a differnt time zone and im in NYC - I would truly appreciate if anyone here can help me understand why the text doesn't seem to be editable. Any videos or tutorials could help. Keep in mind this is an asset already created/designed by someone.

Thanks so much

Hi there,

Thank you for reaching out. If text is outlined, it will show compound paths in the Layer panel, and it won't be editable. However, if it shows the text starting part in the Layer panel, then the text can be edited.

Please share a screenshot of your layer panel with all layers & groups expanded. If it is outlined, you may ask the Designer to send you the editable file or Font Name/File he used. If he doesn't provide the editable file or Font Name/file, you can use a third-party website for finding fonts:

https://www.fontsquirrel.com/matcherator
http://www.identifont.com/
https://new.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont/
https://www.whatfontis.com/

I hope it helps.

Please switch to Outline mode.

If you are on Mac, press Cmd+Y, on Windows - Ctrl+Y. Create a screenshot and share with us. This will help to say something useful.

If you go to View > Outline View, how does the text then look? Filled or unfilled?
