Text on top of lines?

Hi,

I've created a tile pattern using lines that are grouped. I then want to have the text "HALL etc" on top of the lines, but as you can see of the lines end up over the text. I've tried Object > Arrange > Bring To Front or Object > Arrange > Send To Back, but it doesn't seem to work...

Any ideas of how to fix my problem?
