The contour feature is not working

Hi all 

I have an issue with my illustrator, the contour feature bescially does not make outlines, i had several attemps with adobe support but no of the possibility solution worked, if  I  created rectanle and press ctrl + y it should show outlines right ? in my case ontlines comes out on the screen when i shut down the application.   You are my last hope.
