Hello.

I need help. I created a file last month and now I cannot open is. I get the message "The file sample.ai is in an uknown format and cannot be opened"

This has happened to some files. I saved them in different options and I get this message.

I deleted the app. Re installed it an nothing.

Also the app was up to date, no third party plugins. The app is crushing 2 times a week. My computer is bright new with higher requirements than adobe needs.

I need the files back. This is happening is ai files and in eps files.

Any thoughts?

Thank you

Hello @Nefeli35051706flyb,

Would you mind providing some details about the circumstances under which these files were saved or edited and the location of the files where they were stored? For example, were there any unexpected Illustrator crashes, sudden app closures, system shutdowns, or power cuts during the editing process?

Also, kindly share a link to a sample file after uploading to Dropbox/Google Drive/etc. so we can check it on our end. Although we cannot guarantee a successful recovery, we will try our best to do so.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hello

The file was created on October 2024. I opened it several times after creating it. I tried today the same message appeared.

There were no unexpected Illustrator crashes, sudden app closures, system shutdowns etc

I have 2 hard drives (C and D) in my computer and storaged it in the second one. I also have an external hard drive that I keep my back up there. These files are damanged too. I really haven't found a pattern in the damaged files. They work until they are not.

My computer has these:

Lenovo Thinkstation P710

Χ CPU Xeon E5-2690 v4 (14-Cores)

64GB RAM

2 x 1 TB SSD

NVIDIA Quadro M4000 8GB

Windows 11 Pro

I have this problem in the past year with several files. I try to open them and I get this. For .ai files and for .eps files.

I have lost so much work with that issue.

Also the app was up to date and I had 2-3 crashes a week for the past month at least.

I save my files with the options in the image I have attached.

Here is the link to download the file. https://we.tl/t-74BVx6IEau as you requested.

I have several files damaged like this and it is very frustrating.

I now deleted the app and re installed it per the instructions I found on adobe help. Also I checked all other steps and everything looked ok. I even temporary disable my antivirus program.

Any advice?

Hello @Nefeli35051706flyb,

Thank you for sharing the file with us. Despite attempting to recover from the file, regrettably, there was nothing left to salvage. I understand this may not be the ideal outcome, and I apologize for any inconvenience.

It seems like there is something else that might be causing the files to be corrupted like a third-party program or issues with the file storage.

To avoid similar situations in the future, I would advise saving multiple copies of your active work locally or saving them as cloud documents.

Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any further questions or need assistance. We're here to help.
