The Path Eraser Tool Keeps Making New Paths.

I'm trying to erase parts of a path using the Path Eraser tool on a Compound Path and the tool keeps creating new paths. I have 3 compound paths in my scene and, I was able to erase parts of the paths on 2 of the 3 compound paths. Can anyone point what I am doing wrong?
