The Selection Tool issue in Illustrator 2021 —the Selection tool acts like a Group Selection tool

As I was working in my file, the Selection Tool suddenly started acting like the Group Selection Tool.

Did I click the wrong combination of keys to make that happen, or something like that?

Now, as I select the Selection Tool from the panel, or click (V) key to select the tool, the objects appear selected with the selection box that's the same as the Group Selection Tool's box. 

I'm on Mac. And I'm subscribed to the Creative Cloud. No matter what file I open in this version of Illustrator (v 25.2.3), the Selection Tool acts like the Group Selection Tool. I uninstalled the version in the Creative App and installed it again (all done in the app), but still no changes.

The older versions of Illustarator (like v 24.3) does work properly right now. The problem is only with the Illustartor V 25.2.3. How can I fix that? Thank you!
