Question

There is a serious problem with exporting files for print

If I "Export As" and save the file as a png, I am able to adjust the ppi but I am not given an option for sizing. When the file is saved, it automatically ignores the size dimensions that I have the file in, in my actually illustrator document and resizes it at a much larger size. What in the actual F***??! Then I have to go all over the internet looking for an answer on how to adjust the size of my doc upon saving and all anybody says is "save it for web" or "make the res 72dpi." None of those are good options. I'm trying to save a file to be PRINTED, not just to be viewed online. It can't be low res and it can't be just for the web.

Why in the hell are there not sizing options upon saving? Why is it somewhere else in the program to be found? It seems like it would just be LOGICAL to have all of that in the same box as the resolution box upon saving. Nobody has answered how to do this anywhere it seems. And Adobe, how many frickin YEARS of people asking about how to do this is it going to take for you to realize that you have this crap organized like shit? I saw this question as far back as 09 and still up until 2016!! It is not set up in a natural way CLEARLY because people keep asking how to do it. People who are much more skilled than me can't even figure it out on their own. I mean seriously CHANGE this crap. It's driving me insane that I can't do this. I'm spending HOURS on this bullshit!

after hours of on line searches, digging, trying many elaborate suggestions I found this to work. Adobe should make this come up top of a search !!

What version of Illustrator are you using? As it states there that particular problem was fixed with version 22.0.1

Did you ever get the resizing issues figured out ?  ( Exporting as png / high res. for print )

I am having a similar problem and have been searching all over the web. Nothing is working. My design is a hybrid of photoshop and illustrator in accurate repeat for on line textile printing. I used to do it without any problems in CS6. But since updating to CC it changes the size slightly. But that is a real problem on a repeat. I need 300 dpi for printing.

If you solved it, please share the solution. Thanks !

What exactly are you sizing exactly to what? And how do you do that?

Right. That's because you (and anyone else who asked about .png format for print output) are mixing concepts that don't belong together. Actually, that answer has been repeated 1000's of times, and at least 3 more above.

PNG is definitely not the right format.

A reliable PDF option is PDF/x-4 which is an ISO standard for print documents.

This will not remedy a low res image. So if you have an image in your artwork that is 72ppi, it can't miraculously make it 300ppi, which is what you need for good quality print.

To create a PDF/x-4 file for print, do the following:

  1. File menu > Save a copy
  2. Change format to Adobe PDF (pdf)
  3. Name your file, choose the location and click Save
  4. In the Save Adobe PDF dialog, choose [PDF/X-4:2008]
  5. Click on View PDF after saving if you wish to see it in Acrobat
  6. Click Save PDF

You can read more about PDF/X here: Print-Ready PDF/X-1A AND PDF/X-4 Files - Premier Press

I'm putting together a site using shopify. I am utilizing a fulfillment company to print my products. In order to get the products on the site, I have to upload a PNG (specifically a PNG) to the site and attach it to a product render. I can not use a PDF. I am not handing this over to a print shop. SO everybody on here is clearly saying save it as a PDF and that is the only way. My question is, if that's the only way, how have the thousands of others who have done sites just like this made their products work if the only way to do it is saving the files as PDFs?

What you guys are saying is there is absolutely no way to manage the size dimensions of a PNG file? Is that really the answer here?

what is this site that only accepts .png files for printing? can you share it with us? This sounds strange. You are right, how do all of these people submit files?

share the site, please.

Have you seen a trouble with the (file.png) publishing file smaller than root file in AI?

You can save with .PDF to print.

PDF is the correct file type for printing because it retains vector information. Png is intended for screen not print.
