Toggling between selection tool and scale has disappeared

Question

I have been able to toggle between the selection tool and the scaling function by holding the spacebar and shift or scale down on the fly by adding the command key for as long as I can remember. Suddenly this morning, Illustrator will only change to the direct selection arrow if I hold the spacebar and command key and nothing at all if I hold the spacebar and the shift key. In addition, I frequently use the spacebar as a shortcut to move the dartboard around and that no longer works. I have restarted and reset Illustrator to no avail. The lack of these time saving shortcuts is really slowing me down. Can't find a way to get them back. PLEASE HELP!

Thanks.Your computer needs to be restarted every now and then.Do the shortcuts get confused several times a day? In that case in fact resetting the preferences might be inevitable. But if this only happens after your machine has been running for weeks without a restart, then most probably it just hung up.
