Tracking down a possibly deleted AI file

Hi,

This morning I went to open a file and got this message: "File does not exist." I don't think I deleted it but can't find it anywhere, including my recycle bin. Is there a way I can see where it originally was, or if I accidentally deleted it permanently?

Usually that kind of error happens when you try to open a file that was opened from an externally attached storage source (USB memory stick, external hard disc, etc) but that storage source is not currently attached to the computer.

I thought it was on my external SSD, and that's always plugged in. I can access everything else on it. Can you view a file path somehow? There was no document thumbnail either, which is why I'm thinking I permanently deleted it. They go away if you do, right?

On the Home screen in Adobe Illustrator you can hover the pointer over file names listed under the document preview image. A little text pop-up will appear showing the full file path. Even if a thumbnail preview image isn't shown it should still display a file path when hovering over the file name.
