Question

Transform and actions

Hi, I have many files with circles that need to be the same size but right now they are different sizes. I need a quick way to resize them all to be the same. I tried creating an action to size them all to 1 inch in diameter.

It worked for the first circle but when I played this actionas a test on a second circle it came out not being 1 inch in diameter.

I know I can use transform on each circle manually but I have so many. Is there still a way to set up an action to make each circle one inch? I am trying to be as time efficient as possible.

Try Effect > Convert to Shape > Ellipse. Select Size > Absolute, then enter the height and width you want. To finish, apply Object > Expand Appearance. This works for squares (Rectangle) as well.

There are scripts you may want to try. For example this pretty old one that however still works in the latest version of Illustrator:

http://illustrator.hilfdirselbst.ch/dokuwiki/en/skripte/javascript/width_and_height?redirect=1

Instruction: Draw a circle (or any other path) in the desired size and make sure that it is the bottommost object of the stacking order.

Then select all objects you want to resize including the circle. Now run the script. All objects will be resized according to the size of the circle.

Which version of Illustrator are you using?

Are the circles live shapes (ellipses)? If so, you can just select them all and set the uniform size in the Transform palette in one whack.

Thank you for your reply

The circles had been rasterised by me and replaced with a png image of a swirly citrcle.  The circles belong in sepparate files; around 100 files. I think I will have to manually set the width and height for each one . I should've planned ahead better.   I tried making an action to make them a specific size  but since they are already different size it didn't work.
