Transforming Objects in Illustrator v29

Hello, I just updated to v29 and can no longer transform objects using the selection tool (click the object, hold down shift and drag from an anchor point to scale the object.) It wants me to use the Transform tool, which is fine I guess but would much prefer to use the selection tool. Any ideas on how I can do this? Thanks in advance!

Hi @Olivia32241649sj91,

Thanks for sharing your question! In Illustrator v29, you should still be able to scale objects using the Selection Tool with Shift-click and drag to maintain proportions. If this isn’t working as expected, there are a couple of things to check:

1. Make sure the bounding box is active. Go to View > Show Bounding Box. This will allow you to use the anchor points for scaling directly with the Selection Tool.

2. Sometimes, resetting your preferences can help with tool issues. Go to Illustrator > Preferences/ Settings > General (Mac) or Edit > Preferences > General (Windows) and select Reset Preferences.

If you’re still having trouble after these steps, let us know! We can explore further options or check for any setting changes in the latest update.

Do you have the Bounding Box active? View menu: show/hide Bounding Box
