Question

Trim view not working

I am on a time limit with a project I have been working on. For some reason, the trim view is completely greyed out when I select any layer on my artboard. Does anyone have any idea how to fix that so I can use trim view?

My PC (I much PREFER MAC) will not let me take a snippet with the drop-down menu open.

PS > EDIT drop-down menu > all the way at the bottom PREFERENCES

Just seems like it is placed strange -- like why not in the PS ICON drop-down menu?

it gives error in chat to paste my screenshot --- why would companies expect graphic designers to use PCs instead of Macs???!!!!!!

Can I kindly ask WHY preferences are located under the EDIT menu? Feels awkward compared to the past 30 years using Adobe Illustrator, etc.

Hello @Peteo

Thanks for reaching out. Would you mind sharing more details about your exact workflow and the version of OS/Illustrator installed, along with a few screenshots, in a new post so we can better assist you?

Everything is so much easier and streamlined on a Mac!

I`m having the same issue here.

Trim view worked just fine a few month back, but now it`s greyed out. I`m on Mac latest OS and the latest update of Adobe Illustrator. On Adobe Illustrator 2020 it`s not working either. I`m coming to believe this is related to storage and memory issues.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about this trouble. I tried but couldn't replicate this behavior at my end. I would request if you could share a few more details like:

  • OS and version of Illustrator
  • Screenshot of layers panel (Showing all layers and sub layers)
  • Is the issue related to a specific document? If yes, could you please share the document with us? You can upload it to the Creative Cloud (https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/share.html) and share the download link.
  • When did this start happening? Are there any recent changes made to your system? For example, any antivirus, system updates or web extensions installed recently.

You may also try resetting Illustrator Preferences ( https://helpx.adobe.com/in/illustrator/using/setting-preferences.html ) and let us know if that resolves the issue.

Please note that resetting preferences will remove all the custom settings and Illustrator will launch with default settings. You can also take a backup of the folders in case you want to. Location is mentioned in the article.

We're here to help, just need more info.

Regards,

Srishti

I ran into this issue and realized that I had the artboards hidden (control/command+shift+H). That woudn't let me go to Trim View. Show artboards and it works, for me at least.
