Trouble with typing, backspace, and changing font size

I am trying to edit a document, but I am currently unable to type, backspace, or change the font size. When I go to type or backspace I have to literally do it one at a time. As an example, if I go to type "Bedroom" I can only type "B" then I'll have to click on the B again and type "R". I'm also unable to highlight an entire word. When I go to highlight a word, I can only highlight one letter out of the word. Lastly, when I select "all text objects" and change font size the letters actually start to overlap one another. Please help.

What type of file are we talking about? What is the file extension? Sounds like you have a PDF file which is using ligatures and has been converted.

Does this only happens on all new docs, only all old docs, or both?

If it's specific to ONE file, try copying and pasting to a new doc.

Did you try a prefs reset?

Did you already try and reboot the computer?

Which system and version is it?

Does that happen with all fonts?

How is the tracking set up in the Characters panel?

Yes, rebooted computer

System & version: adobe illustrator 2022 version

Yes, it does this with all fonts.

I do not know what the tracking set up is.

Then the tracking is definitely an option you should check.

You might want to show us a screenrecording of the issue with the characters panel open.

Maybe reset your preferences, which will erase all your settings.

Does this only happen in a specific file or all files?

Which language is your system, keyboard and Illustrator?
