Trying to convert a shape to a path

I applied a twist effect to this star shape. Is it possible to turn this into a path where the black lines are?

Thank you! Although it made way more paths than I wanted, I was able to delete part of it and get and what I wanted.

Yes, therefore, select the pathg, and Object>Simplify, very likely with the default (initial) settings will be enough.

I did try that and got 16 segments and anchor points for the 8 sided star
