type on path tool, duplicate shape changing type size etc. connecting blue line?

Hi there,

I'm using Ai 27.9

I've just started playing with ''type on a path'' tool, and sometimes, when I click on the end handle of the type a duplicate shape comes up attached by a strong blue line , with little arrows in the handles joining the objects. When you manipulate the objects dimensions it appears to scale the original, changing the type along the path.

But I can't find any documentation online and am not sure whether it's a bug or something that could be useful, actually I have used it to help size and manipulate type along a path so guess it is useful.

Can't apply any fill or stroke to the duplicate object but you can see it in outline view, although when selected in outline veiw it doesn't seem to have an effect on the type.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as the direct selector and selection tool seem to do weird  things here.

Ta, Alex

THis looks like you have threaded the text to a second ellipse.

Could that be the case?

But if not, then maybe you could reboot the computer. And maybe even reset the preferences (this will erase all your settings, so you might want to rename the preferences folder, since that can be undone)
