Unability to continue work on path after adding a guide line

Hello there,

I recently started using Adobe Illustrator so I'm a complete noobie right now. I have the following problem - whenever I work on a path with the pen tool and decide to drop a new guide line, the path is deselected and cannot continue working on it from the last anchor point I made. I know that i should be seeing a "/" sign next to my pen tool cursor marking that i can continue from there but i only get the new path option " * ". Note that this happens only after i create a new guide line while using the pen tool to create a new path. Any ideas?

Hello Slupov - The path will become deselected when you change tools or make guidelines. Illustrator is unaware that you intend to return to your path, but all you need to do is select the Selection Tool (dark arrow - or "V" shortcut) and reselect your path. Then select the Pen Tool (or "P" shortcut) and approach your path's endpoints to continue adding to your path.

You can also go straight to your Pen Tool without using the Select Tool, and go to the endpoint and continue adding to the path that way. Does this help?

Yes, thank you so much! I'm almost certain I was doing the same all the time but for some reason it kept happening. It's all good now, thank you for your quick response.
